Vintage reworked clothing & fabric exchange business

Hey there, I've been selling vintage clothing for a few years and want to expand. My idea is to rework my inventory into really nice 1-of-1 pieces and sell them on my website and various shops. I have a ton of ideas ready and am getting my sewing world setup to get started ASAP.

The second part of my business that I want to add eventually is a vintage fabric exchange program. People can send in unused or unwanted vintage clothes for credit towards purchasing pieces available on the site. I will develop and include a price chart on the site to determine fabric value, by either weight/material or by market value.

I plan to market the business on all relevant social media platforms, specifically as a sustainability brand. I want to adopt environmentally conscious shipping policies and reduce fabric waste that could otherwise go towards new recycled clothing pieces.

Some questions I have:

  1. What input costs do I have that may not be obvious?
  2. Any tips for handling organization of inventory and the website?
  3. How much should I spend on advertising? (Budget flexible, just curious).
  4. What's the best way to handle getting and sending lots of mail?
  5. Should I look into kickstarter websites? I could make lots of cool clothing reward tiers for supporters
