Should we focus on a smaller niche or a large market for our first product? I'm conf

My team came up originally came up with an idea for an app that helps professionals working in a specific area of an industry manage their work. There is basically no competition in the space as of now.

We discussed it with friends and a few potential investors. And the feedback we got was to expand the target audience to that entire industry as they think our particular target niche is too small.

I'm fine with that except for the fact that I think it's going to be very difficult to market to such a broad category. Making an app for the smaller niche was relatively easier, as I just had to show what it did and leave it at that. But in this new concept there's going to be a lot of head scratching. It's like an app that just crops photos versus a photo app that does tons of things
