Using a {name}app.com or {name}.app top level domain? Is .app viable?

I'm trying to build a web application, and I'm aware the ideal situation is to simply use the .com domain, however I have exhausted all logical names for it. As such, I'm definitely getthing both {name}app.com or {name}.app.

My question is, is the .app tld viable with the general public? Will people click on it? Will people require endless reminders not to use a .com domain? I haven't really seen any big tech companies use .app, even ones that are essentially web app businesses. It seems the .com still holds a lot of sway.

As such, what would you do, would you go the conservative route of setting {name}app.com as the main domain for your website, or {name}.app, and redirect the other? Do you have any personal experience with this (this matters a lot to me)?
