Seeking advice for hiring an admin assistant

I own and operate a few startup businesses and am planning on hiring an admin assistant soon to help take some stuff off my plate. I am currently in the learning phase of understanding what world class admin assistants look like for non traditional businesses, and would love to get some advice on what sorts of traits to look for in the person I hire. Basically, how will I know an excellent admin assistant when I come across one?
