First steps?

I have an idea for a mobile application that believe has massive potential, however I am just not entering college and have yet to take any courses in software development. Does anyone have any suggestions on what steps I should take? I want to get start making headway on this project but I just don't have the tools yet, and by the time I do it may be too late.
