HELP - domain, g suite and website. How are they connected?

Im sorry if this is a dumb question....I’m not sure why I need to do these things and how they all connect. Can anyone explain how the domain works and why I need it to set up a professional email (aka an email without @gmail) and once I have g suite with my desired email what is the next step for most of you? I originally only wanted to create a professional email because I plan to work mostly out of Instagram but I’m so confused as to why I needed to buy a domain to set up a professional. I know this sounds like a silly question but I would really appreciate it if anyone could explain how all these things are connected... i feel like an idiot buying and setting things up that i don’t understand. Thank you so much.
