My name is Joe and I run a dma. For years now I've seen marketing companies take advantage of local businesses small and large and it's so disheartening that people blindly pay $1500-$5000 for Local SEO. Here is some valuable information for you to use in your Local area. This is mostly for general contractors, plumbers, electricians, and any type of service local based business. (these are methods that we use now for our current clients)
Geotagging. What the heck is a geotag and how does it help me?
Geotagging helps the search engines (Google, Yahoo, Bing) make the connection between your photo and the location of what it depicts or where and when it was taken, or both. You can set the geotagging to be a particular location you choose, down to specific latitude and longitude coordinates. So in other words it pin points a location in that photo.
Geotagging lets you put all that important information in one place, with an image, which will increase your SEO results. BUT HOW DAMNIT?
The location information on a photo on the same webpage as your company’s description of services will boost the search engine’s confidence in the results it provides. It will be certain that your business is indeed located in the physical location that was included in the search question. You know when you take a photo on Instagram and it tells you the location, well that's geotagging. You need to do that for your website as well.
To optimize your search results using geotagging, ensure that you have a geotagged image on at least the following pages of your website:
homepage, contact us, location or blog pages.
Of course, adding a geotagged photo to every page or post on your site will help the most. Don't get lazy now, just do it so you don't need to pay a marketing company like myself. Or you can whatever works for you (kidding). No serious people. Now the fun part:
https://compressor.io/ - Use this to get your photo down to the lowest KB possible so it doesn't mess with https://developers.google.com/speed/pagespeed/insights/ <- important for SEO, if your website is slow geotagging a million photos won't help you.

Other ways to help with Local SEO?
Images offer a few different ways to help your Local SEO that I can bet no one else is doing right now. Unless you both are from the same city and are reading this from the same sub-reddit which means yall will be fighting till the death (kidding).
- Image title or file name. Repeat your business name and location in the image file name. Every mention improves the ranking. Your customers don't see this, but the search engines do. Here's an example: https://gyazo.com/07c493c26b63ad237c2abdd737c43ec0
- Image alt-text. Many web designers forget to enter information into this field. Alt-text helps visually impaired users. This has been around for a while and still to this day people aren't changing this and helping their customers out: See example here: https://gyazo.com/8c0e4855f4df1c259d1f9d97b4819dd0
- Lets not forget the basics:
- Site Title
- Site Description
- Site Keywords
Those 3 need to be addressed before you do anything else. Focus on your Local SEO and it will drastically improve that phone ringing. Local SEO is a real thing and we need to start thinking about it now. If you think this is a lot just wait till everyone starts switching on over to Voice Search as people have already started. How many of you own a Siri, Alexa or Google voice device?
Don't think this matters? Look up "california digital marketing agency" and see if my company pops up. No I'm not trying to get more business. No I don't want a client (booked for FEB anyways). Is my SEO the best? Hell no. Why should you trust me? Done it for actual clients with zero complaints and metrics to prove it. Why isn't your SEO up to par? Busy with clients. It's like the typical cleaning ladies, they are awesome at cleaning your house but their house are complete utter messes.
Yes I want you to apply yourself and fix this yourself. Pay for marketing when you've been in business for years and have a budget for it. Don't get a marketing company when you are less than a year old. Establish yourself first.
