I live in the UK and I've been approached by an exciting US start-up with an extremely lucrative offer and a fascinating company, both of which I'm extremely compelled by. Unfortunately the employers aren't offering much in the way of job security for the role, and even specified that I would technically be a full-time contractor, and not an employee (even though they plan to offer me a competitive amount of equity)
I've been thinking about asking them to offer me a 12 or 18-month contract instead of the full-time freelance situation. Is there any other way to ensure job security other than trust in these two dudes from a different time zone? I'd love to work (and get paid crazily) by them, it's just a daunting proposition to leave a comfortable pension job for.
If I lose this, I may not get back into this specific industry again, and could have to change fields.
