Is starting a startup a bad idea for a founder who has family to support ?

Recently read one of Paul Graham’a essays, where he wrote that he wouldn’t recommend anyone who has a family to support to run a startup. I am 27 working for a startup right now and have some income from that to support my family (wife and son). I am getting a lot of knowledge and experience on whole startup industry and look forward to start my own venture next year. But as any husband and father I am afraid that there will hard times for my family due to financial constraints. But I really wish to try out myself and build something people want. Are there a lot of founders who launched successful startups while having a family?
