Didn’t want to ask DHL directly as I don’t want to get the company in any trouble.
I placed an order with a small luxury brand worth $1,700. The package was shipped with signature confirmation but DHL released the package at my residence while I was at work, without having me sign for it and it was subsequently stolen.
DHL assured me that the company is in their right to file a claim for improper delivery. When I asked however, they told me the declared value was $300. The company is based in Asia and I imagine they declared it a lesser value to avoid custom fees.
Do businesses have the ability to change the declared value of a package once it’s shipped? Ultimately they shouldn’t have done that but I’d hate for them to have to refund me $1,400 out of pocket.
