How important terms and conditions are

Hey Guys,

I wonder how import the terms and conditions part of any web site is. Can I just copy paste (ie. rephrase) the terms from a similar platform? Or do I need to pay for an attorney to do that? What is the general practice and what else I need to know so that I won't put myself in an unpredictable situation in future. Is there any check list that any online service needs to perform before going live?
