First time importing from over seas

Hello all. I have recently ordered samples of kitchen knifes and cutting boards from China I’m in the United States. Once I pick the combination I want I’m going to be placing my order 30 kitchen knifes 30 cutting boards. The total cost of good that I am paying is less then $800 I will be using a courier service such as DHL.

What do I need to do? I’m seeing some of these customs agents I need to hire? And was told this few that fee up to $600 in fees and it’s 30 knifes.

From what I am trying to read is that DHL is more expensive but they are taking care of everything for me and delivering to my address. They are acting as the freight forwarder?

Because the product is under $800 does it fall under “personal consumption”

Any advice would be great I’m trying to expand my dry rub business for next year offering cutting board knife and dry rub
