Unexpected pitches — best practices?

So I reached out to a super VIP and asked them for help with mentorship. That was before I actually thought I’d want to pitch them my startup idea.

To my surprise, they actually replied that they’d be willing to help chat with me about my career.

Well now I’m more into my startup, and I’d actually like to pitch them my idea. But I reached out to them on the pretext of talking about my career. It feels weird springing my startup on them now.

What’s the best way to pitch in situations like these where you didn’t expect to have something exciting to share?

What have your experiences been with this?
