Has anyone successfully tested business ideas using Google Ads?

I see guides about this all the time.
The basic idea is you put up a fake landing page for a business idea you want to test, then you throw down $100 on Google Ads to send it some relevant traffic, and you see how well it converts. If you get a lot of interest, then your idea is validated and you build it out for real.
But I just put a ton of keywords into Google Ads for my B2B idea and it forecast 5-12 clicks for $100. There is no way I'm going to be able to validate the idea from 5-12 clicks.
Did this strategy work for anyone else?
What was your trick for getting it to work?
