Import Qs

We have set up our business plan, soft opened our online store with limited wholesale quantities. Now, after almost a year I have found what I hope is a reliable manufacturer in India. Sampling is done & I am waiting to pull the trigger on my first shipment order. What steps do I take next? Should I contact a clearing agent here in the US first? Should I make a contract with the manufacturer? If so, how? I don’t think anything will be internationally enforceable; it is not a large first order. Should I entrust the manufacturer to ship the products with CIF? Or should I try to find a local agent in India? Its a lot of Qs i know. I want to try & cover all bases.
