How to decide how much equity for start-up?

For my upcoming startup, I recently took aboard someone with more technical / development skills to help with certain issues. We aren't online yet and won't for at least 2 months, so he is willing to do this in exchange for equity, because he believes in the project. Though, the project is pretty far along and he will only work on it in his spare time. I'm guessing maybe an hour a day...
How would you go about deciding on how much equity to give this person?
