I run a mobile dog grooming business. I have trailer that I pull that has all of the supplies of a grooming shop, including water and electricity. I only groom one dog at a time so it a very personal service, and owners get the luxury of a clean dog without the chore of dropping off and picking the dog up from a traditional grooming shop. The typical rule of thumb for pricing mobile grooms is about $20 more than what the shops are charging. This higher rate covers the travel time and fuel expenses, it also helps cover me because I can do less dogs in a day. Shops in my area are charging $60 for small dog full grooms, so I have been charging $80. I have had 3 out of maybe 8 new clients act like this price is extremely high. People have been shocked, and I hate having those conversations.
Are these just not my clients? Should I stay strong and wait for people to come around? Or do I need to charge less? Maybe a discount for new clients?
I just opened a month ago, so I am trying to fill my schedule. I live in a small town right outside of a bigger city.
