Startup accelerator: are they actually beneficial?

So here’s a bit of background for context. I’m building a company and need funding. It’s already incorporated here in Canada, where I live, and I’m in the process of designing a logo and an MVP.

I’ve been looking into startup accelerator programs in Toronto, and am wondering if anyone has experience with them.

Is it worth trying to pitch to private investors instead?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much!

Edit: I’ve looked at Next, Founders Institute and OneEleven so far.
