Are wires more recommended than ACH payments?

Like, instead of getting paid by customers via Wire Transfers, are ACH Payments the same thing / safe? I was just complaining about wire fees in another post and someone mentioned ACH. All I've ever known are wires, but if ACH takes less / no fees that seems like a better bet...
