How are the Chief of Staff for a startup viewed

My background is heavily in operations and I’m trying to take that next high impact step. I found a position for Chief of Staff and it’s very operational due to strategy , investor relations , and of course talent. However the COO position is filled and that’s more my thing. Basically is this a good position for growth and respect to move forward ? I know it is of course, but I want to eventually be COO or CEO and not a “glorified assistant “ which annoyingly what I’ve heard people say
