The concept is interesting and I think we're going in a good direction. But our CEO is a pain in the butt, micromanaging everything and not taking a lot of advice from tech people with a lot of experience.
I enjoy it now because we're a small team and things are pretty flexible, but I wouldn't want to be under him if we grow our team. Also, I'm building all the tech that would make this work. From what I understand equity is a pretty long-term thing. Of course it might not turn into anything but he's been an investor before so he can I don't want to wait until a big valuation. I want to work here for a year or two and then leave.
Right now I'm just a paid employee, and I have the feeling if things go well he would just toss me after I built everything or we would just start disagreeing more and more. I asked him about equity and he skirted the issue and hasn't talked to me about it since.
I imagine things like I could tell him if we get investment or if we start gaining traction I would want to work for him at a higher pay for 6 months while setting everything up and then leave. Something like double my current pay so I could save 1 year's of money in 6 months. I'd be happy with that even if it becomes the next big thing (which I know the odds are always extremely slim).
Or maybe say something like if we hit it big or get some investment get some sort of bonus.
Our relationship isn't too bad, we have some tension but I normally just hold my tongue and put in the hours into things that don't make sense. We're still making progress though and things are looking better and better.
Any ideas on what I could negotiate and how to approach it?
