Starbucks changed its iconic mermaid logo to operate in the United Arab Emirates

"A logo is NOT for a business, it is for the customer!"

I have had many clients who want a logo "exactly like that"! Often the thing they are showing does not even represent the actual business he/she will be using it for. Sometimes the logo is not even functional!

For example, a client recently approached me with a logo for a printing press, and they want a colorful logo with 4 colors, and the client preferred gradients. (context: in his country, the printing presses use ancient technology and gradient colors completely ruin the whole thing!) being a PRESS company that is an absolute bad approach.

Similarly, a progressive app company wanted a text-based logo, where they want the whole name to be the logo (note: there are text-based logos for apps but those logos have one or two letters that can represent the whole logo. i.e. Hotels.com app logo).

Logo and the name of a business is the VERY FIRST communication of a business, if done wrong a company might lose business. Starbucks changed its iconic mermaid logo to operate in the United Arab Emirates. Let that sink in.

While it is the job of the owner to recognize these risks, it is the responsibility of the designer to properly execute these. More often than not, a client will not have the expertise of the designer and that is why the designer is hired.

"It is a designer's responsibility to make a client accept and use a good design"

When I worked in Xiaomi Bangladesh, I suggest the head of marketing to have something for the customer that is "exclusive", "memorable" and which can do the marketing for Xiaomi via customers' word of mouth. And thus I came up with the idea of a series of simple wallpapers! (often the simplest ideas are the most effective). Exclusively from Xiaomi handsets through the themes app. It blew up! Other phone users took screenshots of the design (including the Xiaomi logo and brand colors) from friends who used Xiaomi handsets to use it as their wallpaper.

SO! A logo is for the customer to use, like using Nike and feeling sporty, using Apple and feeling smart, using Intel feeling that's a reliable machine (not anymore tho), or using Rolex to feel like a winner/champion/rich! Successful branding can bring a lot to a business.

By now you can understand, branding is my gig.

Branding has been a great interest to me. Since 2016 I have designed for Berkshire Hathaway, Jamvan, British American Tobacco, and many other companies. I took a break from mid-2019! But I have started working again! It's going great.

Just want to put it out there, that if you need a great logo at a favorable quotation - shoot me an email at [balasudipta.sb@gmail.com](mailto:balasudipta.sb@gmail.com)
