TLDR:
I'm starting a new business in the nail polish space after painting my own nails for a year+ now and seeing some of the stigmas and trends in the industry. Looking for feedback and would love any and all responses to a market survey!
Context:
I'm a recent member of r/entrepreneur (long-time lurker/follower on my main reddit account), but recently pulled the trigger on starting a new business and seeing if I can do it! I have some experience in startups (work in tech, worked for a venture accelerator in college, and "fake launched" several businesses for capstone projects as an Entrepreneurship major), but this is my first time really diving in.
The Idea
I started painting/coloring my nails in 2021 as a way to express myself. I'm a straight-passing bi guy and I've always been very muted but felt like I wanted to have a way to really be unique, and I found that with nail polish!
I've been struggling with teaching myself to paint and getting better at it, but I recently discovered nail polish strips and they've been game-changing for me. Takes 10 minutes, no cleanup, no mess, or stains on your hands.
I've been doing a ton of research into trends around nail color + nail care, the rise of nail color in alternative demographics (not just the women-in-beauty demo), and there are a lot of ripe opportunities to innovate on products + a great marketing/branding play to de-stigmatize and create an agender nail color brand.
The Ask
Obviously, one of the first steps to starting a business is figuring out market fit, and the core of that is customer interviews and problem validation.
I'd love any and all discussion or questions in the thread, and I also created a survey that I'd be incredibly grateful if you filled out!
You're helping a first-time founder get off the ground, and I'm really energized and excited by this opportunity. I found something I care about (freedom of expression and de-stigmatizing/un-gendering self-expression) with a product I really enjoy (easy-to-use nail polish strips)!
