I have previously opened a pop up shop and done markets successfully. I don't really want to go back to a traditional job as I have 2 under 2 and we run a farm & contacting business. I want to open a shop on farm. We have an old stone barn that could be kitted out or I have some shipping containers that could be used with work. I have someone to watch my kids on the days I would be open. I have had my eye on a property close by which I'd love to buy and could be turned into the perfect shop. It's in a good location too. But it's old, run down and would take a lot of work to fix up, plus I need to purchase it, which isn't feasible at this moment. Both my husband and mother think it's a bad idea to start a shop on farm now and that I should just go work for a pay cheque. They can't understand how I could possibly make more of a living with a shop. I understand the obligations with a shop. I know the products I will stock will sell and there's nothing like it in this area. Am I dreaming too big? Should I start now on farm now or work a job and wait a few years?
